Keep the hips level.

If one hip visibly drops or the pelvis rotates every step, the stance leg is collapsing instead of supporting you — a common source of knee and IT-band complaints. Note this one needs a front view to judge; from the side it is always marked insufficient. Level hips with a neutral pelvis and active glutes is the target.

What good looks like

Hips level with a neutral pelvis, judged from a front view; glutes pushing the ground behind you.

Evidence: Coaching consensus: stance-side pelvic drop signals weak lateral support; glute strengthening plus marching drills rebuild level hips.

Fix it: 2 cues + 1 drill

1 · Cue

Hips level, pelvis neutral

2 · Cue

Glutes push ground behind you

3 · Drill

2x10 single-leg glute bridges + 20m A-march
